Within the framework of Techfest 2020, the seminar on “Digital transformation solutions to revolutionize healthcare” was held on the morning of 28 November at National Economics University, Hanoi. The seminar focused on discussion of digital transformation trends in the world and health sector in Vietnam and the needs and visions of hospitals on digital transformation, thereby proposing effective ways for exploitation of great potentials, promoting the digital transformation of Vietnam’s health sector in the coming time.
The event was hosted by VMED Group – Head of Health Technology Village, with the participation of Mr. Pham Hong Quat – Director of Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprises – Ministry of Science and Technology (S&T), representatives of the Information Technology Department (Ministry of Health) and many speakers known as leading experts in medical technology in Vietnam and the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ngo Thanh Son – Deputy General Director of VMED Group affirmed: “The medical technology market in Vietnam has many difficulties and challenges because this is an area requiring intensive knowledge and it is difficult to access and change the user habits. However, this is also a potential market when Vietnam’s medical infrastructure is incomplete and there are still inadequate technological factors in management and medical examination and treatment. As the Head of the Medical Technology Village, we will bring the healthcare sector closer to technology and work with the startup to analyze and effectively solve problems in the right direction”
At the event, Mr. Pham Hong Quat – Director of Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprises (Ministry of Science and Technology) sent thanks to the Head of VMED Group’s village, Co-head of Genetica village and shared that: “During the last Covid-19 pandemic, we realize that Vietnam possesses great intelligence along with creativity and solidarity. Especially for the health sector, technology greatly contributes to creating the power to win the pandemics. Through seminars and contests, heads and co-heads of villages such as VMED Group and Genetica will definitely bring advice, innovative ways and turn risks into opportunities”.
On behalf of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam – Deputy Director of the Information Technology Department (Ministry of Health) made a speech on digital transformation in healthcare – one of the eight key sectors prioritized for digital transformation by the Government. Nguyen Truong Nam said that the Ministry of Health is planning to deploy a “Three zero” hospital – no queues, no paper documents, no cash payments. In addition, Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam expressed the desire of the Ministry of Health for deep connection with businesses and startups to use technology for improvement of the quality of medical examination and treatment.
The seminar is also a forum to share stories about digital transformation trends from experts around the world via online method. Mr. Duong Anh Quang – Google Health Technology Leadership Manager, through the story of the deployment of typical products with application of Google Health’s artificial intelligence technology into the healthcare system in India and Thailand, gave the Message: “Artificial intelligence technology can help the health sector solve many difficult problems, however, in order to effectively apply the technology, in addition to knowledge and financial potential, the in-depth investigation of the market and practical implementation experience is requested”.
The story of experiences in implementation of digital transformation for hospitals in Japan by Ominext Group – Vietnam’s only information technology enterprise specializing in information system solutions in the healthcare and medical issues for the Japanese market, also brings valuable lessons for digital transformation in hospitals in Vietnam. Through the practice of implementation of digital transformation in 5,000 medical facilities and 3,000 pharmacies in Japan, Mr. Tran Quoc Dung – CEO of Ominext Group emphasized the key contents in the implementation of digital transformation in hospitals, including: Requiring a digital strategy, digital transformation plan; a team of consultants; specialization of each item; contribution of the media, etc.
In addition, through his experience of cooperation with many different organizations and units in Vietnam and the world for implementation of healthcare support programs for the community, Mr. John Masud Parvez – Founder cum President of Vietnam Social Health Revolution gave some interesting views and analyzed on digital transformation trends for health sector, thereby bringing startups a more realistic and in-depth understanding of digital transformation in the health sector.
Also at the seminar, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai – Director of the National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health (Ministry of Health) and Mr. Le Huy Hoa – Research and Development Department – National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health (Ministry of Health) mentioned the practical “problems” – opportunities for startups to use the intelligence, capacity and power of technology to give suitable and effective “solutions” to the “problem” of health digital transformation in Vietnam.
Sharing the actual startup stories of medical technology startups, Mr. Cao Anh Tuan – Co-founder and CEO of Genetica, Co-head of Medical Technology Village and Mr. Nguyen Francis Tuan Anh – VMED Group’s senior advisor of technology and solutions, Member of the Professional Advisory Council of Medical Technology Village inspired and gave practical advices to start-ups.
