VMED Group – Medtech for the new normal

Accompanying the development and addressing the challenges of the healthcare sector, VMED Group is pioneering innovative medical solutions to drive healthcare transformation and improve treatment quality and efficacy.

VMED Group – Medtech for the new normal

Experiencing the negative impacts of COVID-19, Vietnam’s healthcare sector has been accelerating remarkable transformation, benefiting all stakeholders.

At present, 100 per cent of hospitals nationwide deploy IT in hospital management while personal health records are being compiled into databases for smart preventive treatment and management.

Telemedicine and the Internet of Things are also widely applied, along with AI, robotics, and blockchain in all treatment fields.

The pandemic also strengthened pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing. Many high-tech medical solutions like software to read test results, new surgical masks with intelligent fabric for pandemic prevention, high flow oxygen generators, and ventilators, debuted in the market.

Medtech businesses have made great contributions to all this, with VMED Group among the pioneers.

A pioneer in innovation

The pandemic has created new trends of diagnosis and treatment, and spurred a high-tech-driven development trend among medtech businesses in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. They have introduced new solutions and digital platforms where no direct contact is required, helping doctors connect with patients in new ways.

VMED Group is a pioneer of innovative comprehensive medical solutions, now focusing on four major areas: medical IT solutions, manufacturing and distributing medical supplies and equipment, as well as investing in the healthcare sector.

Pham Quang Huy, chairman of VMED Group, shared, “During the fourth wave of the pandemic, we made great efforts to bring to Vietnam medical devices that can be used in COVID-19 prevention and treatment such as ventilators and monitors, and developed telemedicine solutions to reduce death rates and improve the healthcare service quality and people’s lives.”

“VMED Group commits to a healthier and happier community and continues developing the best possible medical solutions including modern medical devices, high-quality medical consumables, and best-in-class medtech solutions to create a comprehensive smart healthcare ecosystem,” he added.

Some outstanding medical solutions of VMED Group include Hospital Information System; CLAS Healthcare Electronic Medical Records; Picture Archiving and Communication System; and a telemedicine system for remote examination and treatment, for example. Moreover, the company’s tele-ICU connects Bach Mai Hospital with Yen Bai Hospital and Hung Vuong General Hospital, ensuring uninterrupted treatment for patients, especially in the COVID-19 landscape.

In medical equipment distribution, with an extensive logistics network and professional engineers, the group supplies comprehensive and smart solutions for intensive care, and wards of resuscitation, anaesthesia and recovery, as well as surgery.

Especially, in the wake of the country’s policies to increase the localisation of medical supplies, VMED Group has been investing in developing and modernising its manufacturing factories with a strict quality monitoring process. With a vision of sustainable development, the group has focused on research and development to create “Made in Vietnam” products meeting international standards such as auto disable syringes and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products.

Realising the aspiration

Despite its growth potential, Vietnam’s medtech market is still beset by a lack of knowledge and accessibility, outdated habits and incomplete medical infrastructure.

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Head of the Ministry of Health’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, said the telehealth master plan and electronic medical records are important initiatives to accelerate the sector’s digital transformation. The two targets are ensuring professional support for all health facilities, especially district-level ones, and ensuring universal access to regular healthcare.

Medtech businesses play an important role in these goals. To adapt to and develop in the post-COVID-19 landscape, VMED Group has adjusted its development strategy to focus on the connectivity of resources, technologies, and experts.

The group collaborated with senior experts and professional partners to improve medical training in Vietnam. VMED Group has supported the establishment of the Simulation and Continuing Anethesia Training Center with advanced medical devices and many professional training activities.

In addition, the group connects medtech startups with mentors and investment funds, helping them develop solutions to present daily health issues to build healthier and happier communities.

The group cooperated with Hanoi University of Science and Technology to research and produce BKVM-HF1 high-flow oxygen machines which were licensed by the Ministry of Health for circulation in June 2021. Hundreds of BKVM-HF1 units are now used to treat COVID-19 patients.

“We plan to build manufacturing factories and trading units overseas to boost our international presence, putting Vietnam on the global medical map,” Huy added.

VMED Group co-operates with Thai Nguyen National Hospital in opening the Telehealth Center

On 11 September 2020, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital officially opened and put the Telehealth Center into use with the cooperation of VMED Group.
Opening the Telehealth Center is an important step in Thai Nguyen National Hospital’s implementation of Decision No. 2628/QD-BYT dated 22 June 2020 by the Ministry of Health on approving the project “Remote medical examination and treatment” for the 2020 – 2025 period.
The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue – Director of Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department, Ministry of Health; representatives of the Department of Health of 9 provinces in the Northeast; Representative of VMED Group; Representative of Viettel Group; leaders and all doctors at Thai Nguyen National Hospital and representatives of a number of units in Thai Nguyen province.
Opening the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang – Director of Thai Nguyen National Hospital stated the advantages and outstanding benefits of remote examination and treatment solutions and extensive and effective implementation plan to lower-level hospitals, with the desire to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment in the whole province.
The telehealth center at Thai Nguyen National Hospital was built to implement online connection with the team of doctors at 47 bridge points in 13 provinces: Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Binh Phuoc.
Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue – Director of the Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department, the Ministry of Health acknowledged the determination of Thai Nguyen National Hospital as well as the co-operation efforts of VMED Group and Viettel Group to complete and officially put the telehealth center into use. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue emphasized that the main function of the telehealth Center is to help more patients, reduce the workload in the upper-level hospitals and spread the quintessence, useful knowledge and continuous training in the contingent of doctors.
Through the integration of Tele-ICU, Tele-ECG, CLAS Healthcare EMR, PACs, etc, the intensive remote medical examination and treatment solution developed and deployed by VMED Group at the Telehealth Center can be applied for many specialized units such as ICU- Emergency resuscitation, Cardiology, Oncology, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics. This is a useful tool that helps the team of nurses and doctors easily connect and share knowledge and professional experience; provides active and continuous support to lower-level hospitals and reduces the overload at higher-level hospitals.
Sharing about the outstanding value of this solution, Mr. Ngo Thanh Son – Deputy General Director of VMED Group said: “The outstanding difference of the intensive remote examination and treatment solution is the technology “Digital referral” and the connection of lower-level patient data to the center in real time. Thanks to the “digital referral” technology, although the patients are being treated at the local hospital, they are still examined by doctors at the central level through the support of diagnosis and treatment. By this method, the patient will save referral costs and the risks during travel are reduced. In other words, through the intensive remote examination and treatment solution, people get access to the good-quality health services from the upper and central levels at lower- level healthcare facilities at a much lower cost compared to referral.”
With the desire to help people across the country access high-quality medical services, in the coming time, VMED Group will continue to accompany and support hospitals in the whole country for implementation of intensive medical examination and treatment solutions. This effort of VMED Group also demonstrates the commitment to contributing to the successful implementation of the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030 of the Prime Minister, towards a vision of becoming a stable and prosperous digital country and developing a safe, human and widespread digital environment.

VMED Group is a Medical Technology Company in Vietnam. With the desire to co-operate with the health sector for quick control of pandemic caused by Corona Virus (Covid – 19), VMED Group coordinated with the Ministry of Health to develop a “Online management and operation center for professional support of Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment” at the Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department- Ministry of Health. Accordingly, VMED Group will use the CLAS Healthcare electronic medical record software for all patients infected with Covid-19; PACS software and real-time healthcare data transmission software from all medical facilities to the Support Center and Command Center; The aforementioned software will be integrated with the modern medical equipment such as CARESCAPE R860 ventilator and CARESCAPE B450 patient monitor manufactured by GE Healthcare and provided by Vietmedical (a member of VMED Group).
The event for launching “Online management and operation center for professional support of Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment” was held at:
Location: Floor 7, Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department – Ministry of Health
Time: 9:30 – 11:30 Thursday, 5 March 2020
Leader: Vietnam’s Ministry of Health
Implementation organization: Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department – Ministry of Health in coordination with VMED Group
Purpose and meaning of the program:
The World Health Organization declared that the pandemic of acute respiratory infection caused by the new strain of Corona Virus (Covid – 19) is “a state of global emergency”.
In Vietnam, the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is being controlled, however, vigilance is needed because in case of coming back, the pandemic causes unpredictable danger and spreads on a large scale. In particular, many doctors and nurses specialized in emergency and resuscitation, critically ill patients passed away due to untimely treatment (through monitoring of developments in Wuhan and real response to SARS epidemic (caused by Corona virus) in Vietnam in 2003 – Hanoi French Hospital had more than 40 doctors and nurses under simultaneous disease infection and administrative staff was mobilized for replacement).
Although it is possible to send medical staff from other specialties to support, however, monitoring, diagnosis, prognosis, care and treatment are impossible. The use of machinery and tools in resuscitation takes time for training, fostering and practical application to implement the right thing while there is few specialized doctors and nurses, which leads to the overload and exhaustion.
In such context, the deployment of “Online management and operation center for professional support of Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment ” by the Ministry of Health in coordination with VMED Group is very necessary, which will take all advantages of Medical Solutions No. 4.0 in pandemic prevention across the country. In addition, thanks to the Center’s birth, the patient exposure of doctors is reduced and thereby, exposure risks are also declined. “

This is an important foundation for establishment of command centers of the Ministry of Health and Vietnam National Association of Emergency, Intensive Care Medicine and Clinical Toxicology to gather major hospitals in the North, Central and South so that leading experts can support remote consultation, prognosis, solution for timely treatment of Covid-19 infections or apply such situation for future disease control for lower-level doctors in necessary cases.
Medical Solution No. 4.0 at the “online management and operation center for professional support of Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment” helps to deploy a command system for treatment of Covid-19 infected patients from the medical examination and treatment Department – The Ministry of Health to the regional support centers and treatment centers according to the following model:
Connection model of Medical Solution 4.0 at the “online management and operation center for professional support of Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment”
VMED Group actively joined hands with the Ministry of Health to bring digital health solutions using 4.0 technology with the desire to prevent the pandemic as soon as possible.
Mr. Pham Quang Huy – Chairman of VMED Group expressed his determination to accompany and actively join hands with Vietnam’s health sector to provide IT solutions in health sector: “Over the past many years, VMED and other member unit has accompanied and sponsored hundreds of health sector events. Full sponsorship of the hardware and software of today’s solution is our commitment to active development and application of the latest technologies towards a digital health, improvement of medical examination and treatment efficiency in Vietnam”.
